However, one needs a ‘Taryn’ to hand one the key to unlock the safe where that book is being stored. My key was handed to me by Taryn when she casually asked in an email at the beginning of the Covid pandemici following a chance meeting at a networking event, “Mariette, how is your manuscript coming along?” She has a way of gently pushing authors out of their comfort zone.
I now know Taryn as not only a publisher but a caring and compassionate person who makes any author feel that she or he is important. When I was a first-time published author, I spent many a night doubting myself but Taryn was always there to offer advice, encourage, motivate and sometimes simply listen.
She’s a stickler for detail. When we received the proof copy from the printer, I thought it looked superb, but Taryn picked up that the left margin was two millimetres wider than the other!
When we discussed my second book, She Speaks Like a Leader, she said in her quiet voice, “I need the manuscript on my desk at the end of July, allowing me exactly thirty days to get it done.”. Any author prefers having a deadline, and that is what makes Taryn the ideal publisher to work with – she is a linear thinker, exactly the type of person a creative author needs to keep us on track.
